Yesterday was the latest event on the Scottish American Pool Tour in the newest American Pool club in Scotland. Styx, already a firm favourite in Kirkcaldy and regular stop for the Scottish 9-Ball Championships, recently opened a new venue in Glenrothes, only a few miles along the road from Kirkcaldy. Located in the same building as the Glenrothes Snooker Club, Styx Glenrothes houses 9 American Pool tables and 3 UK pool tables. The surroundings are very similar to the Styx we already know and love in Kirkcaldy, only a little more intimate.
My first match of the day was against Remi (that’s all we know him as!) from Edinburgh who is a pretty handy player. As it was, it didn’t help that I was making a few silly errors and was 4-1 down in the race to 6 before I realised that I should start playing. So, I tried one of my Cardman Classic Comebacks and got to 5-4 up before Remi managed to win the last 2 racks to beat me 6-5.
That put me directly over to the Losers’ Bracket and a match with Andy Bain of Glasgow. Now, with no disrespect to Andy, I know I can beat him and was fully intent on doing so. Then Andy got really lucky and got every roll going for him – along with every roll that I got going against me! As it was, Andy won the match 5-3, eliminating me from the tournament.
Ach well, another bad luck heartbreak story to add to the collection. Still, there’s always the final event of the 2006/07 tour, which will take place on 4 March 2007 at Styx, Kirkcaldy.
